I’m pretty excited to check this mix out as I have been a huge Superchumbo fan since the late 90′s when he defined the Tribal Progressive sound. I have very fond memories of watching Eat Static perform live for an L.A. massive many years ago and was blown away when a four legged mech thing came out onto stage with them. It was quite the amazing performance, but scouring Google images I was unable to find any photos of the above mentioned mech leaving me to believe it was all a figment of my imagination. If anyone else saw this please let me know, I would love to know I’m not losing my mind.

So we just found out Laptoprockers have announced a Remix Contest with Psytrance pioneers Eat Static. Winners grab some plugins and the top remix to be released by Eat Static!!

Featuring a drum & bass track, a rock ballad and a synth-pop song in previous remix contests, this time Laptoprockers have joined forces with pioneers of psytrance ‘Eat Static’ to offer remixers two great tracks to play around with. ‘Sin Quest’ is an upbeat dance track with a classic psytrance feel, while ‘Up Periscope’ explores the more downtempo psychedelic avenues. The tracks are off Eat Static’s two most recent albums, De-Classified and Back To Earth.

“Both tracks unmistakeably carry Eat Static’s signature sound and make up for great remix material,” Laptoprockers said. “And as it is the first time Eat Static source material is available from the Internet in a remix contest, this unique opportunity caters for something extra. We’ll have winners for each remix track, and the best overall remix will get a very special bonus.”

As on earlier occasions, Laptoprockers offer a generous prize pool for this remix contest. LinPlug donated six of their best plug-in synthesizers for you to win! “Three prizes for each remix track is only adequate,” LinPlug commented on their contribution, “so each track will have three separate winners.” Prizes include LinPlug’s all in one drum solution RMV, their sample mangling plug-in ChronoX, and FM Synth Octopus and represent over $900 total value.

But there’s more at stake! The icing on the cake comes with a bonus for the best remixer overall. “We definitely will be able to release the best remix,” Eat Static’s Merv Pepler revealed, “we have several options in the coming months for that.” Need say more?

Voters get a free track from Trackitdown and a digital copy of the mag as an incentive, so there is no excuse to not have your say.

You can vote for literally anyone (local DJ, favourite DJ etc..), and the poll is a 100% public vote, so the results show who really are the most popular DJs at the time.

Recent winners include Armin Van Buuren (2007), Paul van Dyk (2006, 2005) and Tiesto (2004, 2003, 2002).

The results will announced in London on 29th October.

The track, Dreamer with its unforgettable vocal hook and catchy synth lines made it an instant favourite with many of the worlds biggest DJ’s and won the hearts and minds of hard trance fans across the globe.

To celebrate the 5th anniversary of this classic K90 anthem, we’re offering all you budding producers out there a once in a lifetime opportunity to really put yourselves on the map by remixing the track.  

To get started simply Click Here to download your Dreamer Remix Kit and get cracking on your interpretation of the track.

Your mix can be in whatever style you want, as long as it’s dance then the top 3 remixes will be chosen to feature alongside a mix by K90 himself and released as a 4 track remix package in Autmn 2007.

If your mix is selected, arrangements will be made to obtain the wav file at a later date. Just caught wind of this “DJ” contest but really it’s a remix contest. There don’t appear to be any DJing skills required. So enter away!! At the start of the contest, you’ll pick 3 tracks from a unique genre – house, hip hop, and rock/alt. You’ll then mash ‘em, and upload your creative mix back to the site. You can upload a mix for each of the three genres for a better chance of winning! You’ll have 4 weeks to enter, and 4 weeks to get out the vote. Voting starts on May 21, 2007 so if your Mix isn’t up by then, you’ll have less time to collect points.

Six DJs make it through to the Finals to mashup one last time for two more weeks. 5 DJs receive runner up prizes and the Mix with the most voter points is the Grand Prize Winner. The contest is open to all hardware and software DJs, so go get your reward – enter now!
